Q-duct: Selection Guide

Air Sox Graphic The Future is Already Here:
Just look at the advantages:

  • Guaranteed draft-free air distribution for any duct size & use
reduced risk of all typical sheet metal problems.
  • Precise and even air distribution
without the need for gratings or diffusers
  • Safe temperature regulation
    high DT possible
  • Lightweight
    1 ft2 = 1oz.
  • Quick and easy installation
on aluminum rails or steel wire
  • Noise suppressing and absorbing
    non-reflective
  • High-grade filtering
    applies to QA only
  • Low transportation and installation costs
    1 ft3 = approx. 12.5 lbs.
  • Hygienic
ideal for laboratories, hospitals, supermarkets, etc.
  • Easy-care
washable, and Q-duct service is available
  • Elegant design
visible installations, attractive and can be color coordinated
  • Lower Cost Installation
not necessary to fabricate or install with sheet metal labor.

Draft-Free Ventilation and Climate Control Solutions
Q-duct provide a sure solution to all ventilation problems.
Regardless of whether it is high-tech industry, the office, food industry, or simply if rapid air renewal is required, Q-duct always present a reliable solution to circulation problems. Even in cold rooms, with temperatures down to -30o F, food & meat preparation or storage, sterile rooms, sports halls or in the chemical industry, Q-duct provides the best solution to non-condensing, cold air distribution.

General facts about Q-duct:

  1. Q-duct is a polymeric fabric impregnated with pinholes to discharge the air in multiple, tiny air streams that do not induce room air. (This is NOT plastic duct with dime-sized holes meant to INDUCE room air and mix it up.)
  2. Q-duct is available in 8 different densities of tiny holes to permit the desired fabric air velocity and consequent length of fabric duct required.
  3. Optional "Air-Slots" constructed of polyester fabric can be sewn into the Q-duct to create a slot diffuser of location and size required for the project. These "Air-Slots" are integral to the Q-duct, located and sized to direct a burst of air directly onto specific objects such as windows (to prevent condensate) or in a continuous linear airstream downward toward the floor (to direct heat) or horizontally pitched to discharge along a roof (to dry-off moisture).

Unlimited combinations available make Q-duct uniquely desirable for design engineers to provide the exact air distribution pattern required on each part of the project. A guideline for selection is attached.

 Q-duct SELECTION

  1. Decide the CFM quantity required for a given building area.
  2. Determine specific directions and locations where this air should and should not be distributed (i.e. 4 & 8 o'clock for heating air, 2 & 10 o'clock for roof blanketing, 4 o'clock for 4' over windows, or "no-slots" for 10fpm, no draught air.)
  3. Determine the percent of CFM that should discharge through each of identified slots (i.e. 75% on a heating application, 100% for roof blanketing, 60% over windows or 0% from air slots for 100% draft-free air.)
  4. Decide on the length of Q-duct required to satisfy air distribution requirements.
  5. Select Q-duct connection diameter with 1500 fpm velocity and 1/2" SP. (Locate supply duct connection in the middle with multiple side/side fabric ducts to minimize cost.)

Given this selection information, the engineers at Q-duct will locate "Air-Slots" of the proper width and length and the fabric with an appropriate opening density to accomplish the exact air distribution pattern and air quantity required.

Q-duct OWNER & USER BENEFITS

Q-duct provides a vastly improved method to distribute conditioned air exactly where required while providing many other benefits:

  1. Installed ducting and diffuser costs should decrease by 1/3rd.
  2. Zippers installed at 16' or specified intervals permit periodic, quick washing of the duct.
  3. UL NFPA 90A Fire and Smoke Safety listing on Q-duct.
  4. USDA authorizes use where the inspector in charge of the process approves.
  5. No rust or condensate can form on Q-duct.
  6. Four standard color selections (blue, red, yellow & white) and infinite custom decoration and advertising signs available.
